Barrie Taxi Powers Forward with Mobile Knowledge
Upgrades to 3rd Generation Series 9008 MDT with Integrated Taximeter & Payment Processing
Mobile Knowledge is pleased to announce the recent engagement by Barrie Taxi Ltd. of Barrie, Ontario, to upgrade the Company’s fleet of approximately 75 vehicles to the 3rd generation Series 9008 Mobile Data Terminal with integrated Taximeter and credit/debit card payment processing.
Barrie Taxi was an early adopter of the Mobile Knowledge eXpert Dispatch Software over a decade ago, and has been an active contributor to the evolution of the system throughout that time. Over this period, Barrie has been recognized as one of North America’s fastest growing cities, and Barrie Taxi has been able to rapidly scale to meet the increasing demands for service.
The 3rd generation Series 9008 MDT builds on the strength of previous generations, adding a state-of-the-art 50-channel GPS receiver, double the memory, and armored touch screen impermeable to contaminates and highly resistant to scratching. The internal taximeter is certified by the US Office of Weights and Measures, and provides an end-to-end revenue tracking and reporting capability for all stakeholders.
As part of the upgrade, Barrie Taxi will take advantage of the Rogers Wireless high-speed data network for communications between the call center and vehicles, as well as fully integrated, EMV capable, credit & debit card processing through Moneris Solutions.
Mr. Erwin Giles, President of Barrie Taxi commented on the upgrade, “Our organization has benefited significantly from the technology investment we have made in the 1990s. Since that time, XDS has been an engine for growth and continues to serve as our main Management Information System, delivering statistics and reports that help us to make decisions and to be accountable to our customers. The introduction of this latest generation mobile terminals will bring new capabilities to our operations, and conveniences to our passengers, further differentiating Barrie Taxi in the marketplace.”
Ms. Catherine Watson-Giles, General Manager for Barrie Taxi added, “The Mobile Knowledge solution is more than just hardware and software to us. It includes the on-going technical support and access to new features and functionality that are continually added to the system. We view Mobile Knowledge and its staff as key members of our team and contributors to our success.”
Mobile Knowledge President Kevin French expressed his gratitude for this most recent purchase, and for Barrie Taxi’s active involvement in the XDS user community, “From the earliest days of the XDS product, Barrie Taxi has attended our annual User Group meetings and Advanced Training seminars. At each of these events, we have received considered and practical feedback that has allowed us to improve our solution to the benefit of all users of the system. We are also extremely grateful for the positive references that Erwin and Catherine have provided over the years.”
